SONOMA SPA FAQ'S

Does having an ozonator in my spa mean I no longer have to use chemicals?
No, you still need to use chemicals in your spa. However, an ozonator will cut down your chemical use by about 30%.

What kind of surfaces can I set my spa on?
To help prevent your spa from cracking & shifting, we highly recommend installing your spa on a concrete slab. However, a well supported deck would suffice. NEVER set your spa on an uneven surface, the spa must be entirely supported by an even & uniform surface.

What are the electrical requirements for a spa?
If you are going to hook up your spa to 230 volts, you are required to have it on a dedicated 50 amp breaker with a GFCI. If you are hooking up to 115 volts, a 20 amp dedicated circuit with a GFCI is required.

Will my spa freeze in the extremely cold temperatures?
Our spas have a built-in freeze protector which would activate the pumps if the temperature falls to 40 degrees in the equipment area. However, if the power goes out for a couple of days, any spa could freeze.

How often should I drain my spa?
This depends on how often you use it. Generally, it is recommended that you drain your spa at least every 3 months or sooner if needed.

Should I use bromine or chlorine in my spa?
Chemical usage is a customer’s choice. There are a lot of chemicals on the market, some better than others. Check with your nearest dealer for help in choosing the right ones to suit your needs.

How do I maintain the cedar skirt?
Apply a stain once a year as you would a deck.

How long does it take to heat up my spa?
If you are hooked up to 230 volts, on the average, it would heat up in 8 hours or less. If you are hooked up to 115 volts it would take approximately 24 hours.

How do I maintain the filters and how often should they be replaced?
You should rinse your filters at least once a week and soak them in a filter solution at least once a month. If this is done, they can last for quite a while. It’s always a good idea to have a second set available, so that your spa is never without filters.

Is it safe to store my spa on its side?
We do NOT recommend storing your spa on its side because of the possibility of warping the spa skirt and the shell. The equipment & plumbing could also be loosened by storing it on it’s side.

What can I do to maintain the heat in my spa?
In addition to a well insulated cover, use a barrier or bubble blanket which can be purchased through your dealer. Keep the spa covered when not in use.

Where is the equipment located?
The equipment is located behind the main access panel, which is underneath the main controls.

How do I program my spa?
Simply follow the directions on the Quick Reference Chart or you may call your dealer for any advice. Once your spa is programmed, it will take care of itself as far as filtering and heating.

How much does it cost to run a spa?
This really depends on where you live and what your energy rates are and also how often you use your spa, however on the average it should be about $15-20 per month.

Q: What is Infrared?

A:
Infrared is a type of heat that is produced when our bodies exert energy- we would not be able to survive without this type of heat. The infrared spectrum is divided into three different groups.

American Infrared Sauna's Cedrus Saunas produce Far Infrared heat, creating a much more natural heat than conventional saunas. Inside the Cedrus Sauna, infrared heaters use 10% of their energy warming the air; the remaining 90% is transformed into heat, which then penetrates the body.

Medical research demonstrates that exposure to long wave Far Infrared heat of 72.-15um can produce excellent therapeutic effects, and is the safest way to heart the body. Hospitals, doctors, therapist, health resorts, specialists and rehabilitation centers all use the instinctive effects of Far Infrared.

Q: Will it drastically increase my electric bill?"

A:
A 20 minute session, including a 5 minute warm-up in the Infrared Sauna, cost about 5 cents of electricity. Infrared Sauna System will raise your electrical bill by only $1.50 a month compared to $22.50 to $30.00 a month in a conventional sauna, if each is used for 20 minutes after warm-up.

Q: Will I need to install a 220-power line for the sauna?

A:
No. Cedrus Saunas are designed to perfectly complement your everyday life. The only thing you need is a 4' x 4' floor space and a 120-volt, 15-amp electrical outlet. And you can even place your sauna outside and protect it with a cover.

Q: Do I need to leave space between the sauna and the wall?

A:
No, you can place the unit against the walls because the outside of the unit will not get hot. Our units work with radiant energy, just like what you feel when you step into the sunlight on a cold day. Our infrared heaters use 10% of their energy to warm the air; the remaining 90% is transformed into heart, which then penetrates the body.

Q: Is the sauna safe for children and pets?

A:
Cedrus Saunas do not emit toxins when they are in use. Your children and, yes, pets are also able to enjoy the benefits of infrared heat.

Q: Will mold or rot be a problem?

A:
Our Cedrus Saunas are made of Western Red Canadian Cedar, which works as a natural disinfectant and feels particularly pleasant. Western Red Canadian Cedar is splinter-proof and contains materials that prevents rot and fungus, unlike poplar and bees wood. It has also been varnished on the outside to guarantee durability.

Q: What can you tell me about the benches?

A:
The benches are reversible, which is an exclusive feature of the Cedrus Sauna and an advantage of solid wood. There is no maintenance requires. If the bench becomes too wet, simply turn it over.

The difference is Infrared Heat
The benefits of Infrared technology are increased pain relief, better circulation, and more effective detoxification.

In other words, A sauna experience unlike any other

Infrared technology radiates heat tuned
to the temperature of our bodies and works
like a sunny day. 93% of the energy
penetrates up to 2

Enhanced benefits of Infrared Heat

Pain Relief – Whole Body Therapy System
Infrared heat can help relived pain by widening blood vessels, which causes increased blood circulation and allows more oxygen to get to the injured areas. This helps reduce the pain and speeds the healing process. Infrared heat has also been used extensively in the treatment of arthritis, rheumatism and muscle spasms.

Weight Control – Burns up to 600 calories in a 25- minute session
Using a Cedrus Sauna will alienate excessive moisture, salt and subcutaneous fat out of the body. Sweating is a part of the complex thermoregulatory process of the body, involving substantial increase in heart rate, cardiac output and metabolic rate, which consumes considerable energy. Weight loss is possible because body fat becomes water soluble at 110 F and the body can sweat out fats, toxins and heavy metal, that otherwise can't be disposed.

Exercise Effect- Works your heart similar to a 6-9 mile run
If you take a 20-30 minute sauna with a Cedrus Sauna, you perspire the same amount as if you had run six miles. Clearly for people not in a position to take such regular exercise, a Cedrus Sauna is crucial.

Eliminate Toxins – Removes heavy metals
Toxins, like sodium, alcohol, nicotine, cholesterol and the potentially carcinogenic heavy metals (cadmium, lead, zinc, nickel) accumulate in the system through sluggish elimination, are normally removed from the body be perspiration. The sauna increases the eliminative, detoxifying and cleaning capacity of the skin by stimulating the sweat glands.
